Mahalo Origins

Nathan Gibbs’ “Mahalo Mosaic” is a radiant celebration of Hawaiian culture, gratitude, and surf lifestyle. Featuring a central surfer figure standing tall with board in hand, the composition radiates outward through a patchwork of iconic island imagery—tropical palms, hibiscus flowers, curling waves, volcanic peaks, and the word “Mahalo” framed in gold. The painting’s layered blocks of seafoam green, sun-faded coral, and sandy yellow evoke vintage aloha shirts and weathered surf posters, tying nostalgia to reverence.

Each segment speaks to Hawaii’s vibrant spirit and natural beauty, while the figure at center anchors it all with strength and humility. This work is ideal for collectors drawn to Pacific Island art, surf culture, or tropical coastal decor with meaning.

The 'Destination Series' uses a quilt, color blocking look, and is done with paint and wood stain. This surf art was painted on wood originally, and depicts surf scenes from around the world.
