Gallery: Byzantine Betrayal - Surf Art

This series of work is modeled after one of my favorite styles of art. The Byzantine works were created mainly from about the 4th century until around the mid 1400's when Constantinople fell. The classic works from this period were very iconic based. They contained religious figures, mainly from Christianity. Within the works themselves, there was much symbolism.

I attempted to recreate that feeling with this series. Instead of religious overtones in this series, I went with environmental ideas and concepts. In another book I published, The Betrayal of Man, Water a story of what is and what will be, a central character is the Messenger. As a surfer, he is a messenger of the ocean and water. Spending time close to both, he attempts to communicate and fight against the polluters, oil companies, and anyone else who threatens that resource.

These works are a close up or study on the Messenger's journey. They show various Messengers at different stages of their crusade.

"The sea possesses a power over one's moods that has the effect of a will. It can hypnotize. Look into its eyes and let yourself go."
